Re: aluminum timing gear recommendation

I agree,

Dan makes the best gears. I have used lots of them.

Re: Connecting Rod stud w galled threads

I agree. Looks like a nice engine. Replace the rod. Get it balanced and you will have a good engine. Trying to do something with rethreading is not a good idea.

My opinion after working on these...

Re: Synthetic Blend

That is fine for a late model F150 but the question was oil for a Model A Ford.

Late model lubrication requirements are different than cars that were built almost 100 years ago.

Re: Timing centrifugal advance

I have found a 6.0 Snyder head needs about 25 deg. @ 2000 - 2200. Try that, I think you will find that will work well.

Re: radiator sealer

I would start with Bars Leak or Aluma Seal. I do not think you need anything as agressive as a block seal.

Re: model A engine oil / lubrication

Nothing magic about Model A engine oil.

I use the cheapest non synthetic 10-30 or 10-40 from O'Riley's, both in my Babbett engines and also my Burtz engine. I do put a little ZDDP additive in my...

Re: Synthetic Blend

I am not a big fan of using full synthetic our synthetic blend in these old engines. It will lubricate the engine just fine but it has a greater propensity to leak.

My opinion,

Re: 31 roadster folding top irons- I think its a delux

I have used "Liquid Wood" epoxy material to fill defects and old tack holes in Model A wood with very good success. I just finished restoring the top on my Vickey which requires fixing a lot of old...

Re: DIY Paint With Eastwood Company

For many years, I have used Eastwood products with very good success.

I also paint my own Model A's.
For the body, I like to use lacquer. For the last 2 Model A's I have painted, I have gotten...

Re: Ryan Oil?

I would think 90-140 gear lube would be fine. I do not think I would want to run 600W.

My opinion,

Re: Roadster top irons - how to remove.

Yes,
There are also 2 screws on each side of the front header that attach the top irons to the header.
Usually, the irons are painted prior to installing the bows, header and top covering but I...

I agree.

Also, I bought Fabric reinforced diaphragm material in several different thicknesses from Mc Master-Carr and made my own pads.

Re: Attention Camshaft Experts

I agree,
Set the lash per the manufacturer's recommendation. Valve lash has to do with the design of the quieting ramps, not the profile of the grind. If you want to advance or retard the cam...

Re: Brace in 1931 Coupe. Crack?

In my opinion, I would definitely want them ridged, I would weld them up. You do not want the body to flex.

Re: Brace in 1931 Coupe. Crack?

These may be some sort of reproduction. They are 1 piece without the "cracks". These are bolted in and they should be riveted. They are not made to "flex".

Re: Water in oil rebuilt Model B engine.

I would use some block sealer. Something made for cracked blocks.

Follow the instructions and give it a try. If it works, it may give you many years of good service.

Simpson 260, Digital is out for working on older cars.

Re: Oil Pan gaskets

I like cork but there are some gaskets currently on the market that look like cork but are some sort of a composite material that will sort of fall apart and fail. I did find some Fel-pro cork...
