I doubt it really matters which you choose, but I like cork. Paper may be tougher against tearing if handled roughly. Cork has an easier squeeze.

An old dry cork gasket has be resurrected by soaking in water and then pat drying with paper towels. The cork will accommodate uneven surfaces. I use paper gaskets but I make sure that my pan is flat.

I like the heavy (about 3/32") paper gaskets.

Paper seems to hold the oil pan bolt torque better over time. The cork seems to shrink and
the bolts loosen up. My 2 cents

Noticed the bolts loosening as well. Any sealant such as spray copper coat (not RTV ) on the paper , other than a couple of dabs of cement to hold the gasket up to the block ? The upgraded set states 'rubber / cork' and not sure about that performance ?

Cork for me. I use aviation permatex to glue it to the pan. I then put a thin layer of grease on the other surface and install it. The grease keeps it from sticking to the block and you can remove and install the pan several times before you need to replace it.

I use the set sold by Snyder's. It comes with the modern composite cork. It's thick so a person has to compensate a bit for that when mating with the front and rear main caps but it holds the oil well enough. Paper doesn't compress well so a person has to make sure the pan rails are straight and flat. The cork composite allows for a less perfect oil pan.

I like cork but there are some gaskets currently on the market that look like cork but are some sort of a composite material that will sort of fall apart and fail. I did find some Fel-pro cork gaskets that are very good. Fel-pro gaskets are usually not sold by most of the vendors.

My experience,
