Default Flywheel Housing Oval Mount

Ran across some extra parts and have a question about the rear motor mounts on a flywheel housing. The mounts have a oval recessed into the casting. (see attached picture)

Is this an original casting?
Any idea why it was done?
Does it require a special rubber mounting pad?

Its on both sides of the casting.

Thanks
Bob

Probably a replacement.

Default Flywheel Housing Oval Mount

Not a replacement, I’ve seen several original housings that include this recess. One theory is that it was to help the rear motor mount, which was stamped steel, make better contact with the housing.

I’ve also seen one housing with no recess, that one was the late type with the reinforced ribs. So maybe they decided it wasn’t needed.

I don't think it is a machined or cast area, I think it is from wear.
