Re: Porta walls

If you get Portawalls, be sure to also get Curb Feelers, or you’ll wish you had.

Re: Confirming specs on a Ford 94-59 Carb

Never thought about welding tip cleaners, I've used broom straws to avoid damage to the passageways. All you need here is to confirm no blockage anyway, so a broom straw from both directions and meet...

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .

My appreciation only applies to original equipment. I have no use whatsoever for reproductions.

Re: FL&WV Mikes 34 phaeton update .

Well said... And, for the record, more than a few of us Ford Barners also have Ah-Oogah Horns.

Re: In memory of Lawson Cox

Lawson expressed humorous pride in being the eldest member of the Ford Barn, an accomplishment he handled easily from his recliner, but seldom mentioned any of his many higher achievements in life....

Re: 39 Mercury starting issues resolved

A similar but different issue once... I was on an extended road trip, and while driving at night, my headlights went dim, then went out, and I stalled. The starter couldn't even turn over the engine....

Re: Sold 36 Cabriolet

I had auction fever once. During the auction itself, I felt compelled as if I had no control at all, continuing to raise my paddle till I won, even though I had begun to have second thoughts. Auction...

Re: Sold 36 Cabriolet

Years ago, while checking out the ‘38 I was to buy, I crawled under the car to see what I could see. The owner asked what I was looking for, I told him “I don’t know, but if I find it I’ll let you...

Yes, but not as often now since I got my new glasses. I can now reply to most posts without nodding off in the middle.

Re: how to fix or replace bend rear radius arm.

Huey, a bent radius rod will affect tracking, the obvious result being faster tire wear, the less obvious being an increased effort to keep driving a straight line forward. This last indication...

Re: 1933 River Rouge Assy Plant

Re: 35 -37 pitman arm?

Dan, your efforts put to better use would be to rebuild your headers to mate well with the much improved '37 box. The question on the pitman arms, definitely more effort required with the longer arm....

Re: What is this "vise"?

Gary, You'd have to consider the escape holes to be risers, their dual functions being to ensure there are no voids, and no captive product expansion separating the two halves. I've never worked in a...

Re: What is this "vise"?

Atch, for display only, your idea of JB Weld can produce excellent results. Choose the particular product with care about color for any left visible. Ensure that no burrs prevent a tight fit, groove...

Re: What is this "vise"?

As a tool guy myself, I'd think a simple wire-brushed oiled rag finish would be more appropriate than paint, and certainly easier prep work. A neatly done weld can show it's had a useful life with a...

Re: What is this "vise"?

As a collectable, it is certainly unique and desirable.
As for usefulness, seriously compromised.
Rule of thumb for any tool is: "Do one thing and do it well".

Re: How many of you do your own work?

Your a wuss. I go out to my California garage just to get away from the TV and the wife. I don't specifically need a carburetor to rebuild, I just enjoy the peace and quiet, with the occasional chirp...

Re: KR Wilson bearing retainer ring tool

As I understand it (I haven't used it), the jaws merely grab the retainer ring, it'll sit there forever waiting for you to pull it out. Now, maybe someone that knows what he's talking about can...

Re: How many of you do your own work?

I reckon that’s how we all got into the hobby. All except the pantywaist privileged kids whose Daddies bought Impalas for.
