I could be wrong but the pics look like an iron (truck) bell housing and a Merc starter plate. Those two won't work together.

Nope. Not always that easy. I've had to beat the lifters up with a 1/4" brass rod beside the cam lobe. They get crudded up on the bottom edge too.

You could have a coolant pool in your muffler that needs to be cooked off with a long drive.

Spitballing here. Something was drilled off-center to cause the shaft to wobble. Drive gear or idler.

I have a Melling from the 1980s that isn't machined right and literally drops into the block so compare (mic) the ford pump to the melling if you go that route. If you want to rebuild the ford pump...

What is the combination of springs and retainers? All early long springs with single-piece retainers or late shorter springs with two-piece rotating retainers?
