I could be wrong but the pics look like an iron (truck) bell housing and a Merc starter plate. Those two won't work together.

Nope. Not always that easy. I've had to beat the lifters up with a 1/4" brass rod beside the cam lobe. They get crudded up on the bottom edge too.

From front-to-back shank length, 2 3/8", 2", 3 7/8", 6". Front and back are special to hold the springs.

Spitballing here. Something was drilled off-center to cause the shaft to wobble. Drive gear or idler.

I have a Melling from the 1980s that isn't machined right and literally drops into the block so compare (mic) the ford pump to the melling if you go that route. If you want to rebuild the ford pump...
