Re: How to tell if a '40 was business or 5 window coupe

[/QUOTE
I agree Bob.
The problem is, I didn't have any good photos to post of a business coupe floor.
I'd restored so many coupes, well, I guess I got lazy in the later years and stopped taking a...
I'd fully restored a number of coupes and can tell you definitively the pans are a lot more different than you might think / envision.
Mike, I'm sure you're correct, but it...

Re: How to tell if a '40 was business or 5 window coupe

Thank you Petehoovie for the bigger picture! I know clicking on one will enlarge, but how did you post it larger?

Re: How to tell if a '40 was business or 5 window coupe

There were at least two '40 5-window coupe rear trunk brace designs. My early build has short side braces to the top of the wheel wells, similar to the business coupe.

I'm 99% sure the main...

Re: 8BA Flathead fan belt widths

The narrow 3/8" belts and offset pumps were used on USA '50-'53 Ford and Mercury cars. All trucks used wide pump belts up through their end of production.

Re: 8BA Flathead fan belt widths

One thing that hasn't been brought up is the '50-'53 left and right narrow belt pump pulleys are not the same diameter, and must match the cast iron crank pulley with the two different diameter...

Re: Vacuum wiper motor restorer needed

I had a totally different experience with Ficken when I sent my '51 wiper motor to him about 20 years ago with good communication, prompt service and fair cost. Sad to read that may not be true...

Re: Wheel cylinder lube

The only time a "Lube" may be needed is on disc caliper piston seals. As marko39 stated, clean brake fluid is all that's needed for master/wheel cylinder rebuilding.

Re: Jegs Electric Fuel Pump

Most after market electric fuel pumps do not shut off during operation. The exceptions are some low pressure soleniod or electronic designs. Your JEGs looks like a Carter rotary vane design I am...

Re: Starter button explaination

I use a high quality two-contact momentary push button starter switch on my '32 and '40 from NAPA, O'Reilly etc, Standard SSB-1 or SSB-1. Commonly used on '37-'51 Fords, designed for 12V negative...

Re: 39 seat springs

If you change your mind, I have several pictures that may help with the build.

Re: 39 seat springs

I had similar issues with the stock bench seat bottom in my '40. The spring coverings were removed, springs thoroughly cleaned and checked for damage, but still ended up with a seat that was too...

Re: Saginaw 4 speed 10” press. Plate to 48 merc fly wheel

Gene,
I know Fort Wayne Clutch has had "bad experiences" but I've never seen or heard about any with South Bend Clutch, our local re-builder, who I've dealt with for many years.

I do agree...

Re: Saginaw 4 speed 10” press. Plate to 48 merc fly wheel

I know there are diaphragms that match the 3 1/8" Long style clutch bolt pattern on your Mercury flywheel. You can try NAPA that used to offer them, or clutch re-builders like Fort Wayne Clutch and...

Re: Why a Resistor?

I've done some research based from written material on hand, namely Ford shop and service manuals, and think/hope the results will answer some of the questions on this post about coils.

Ford V8...

Re: Plumbing a single master cylinder

Plumb the switch first out of the master cylinder, then the rpv, BUT I would strongly suggest installing a mechanical brake light switch on the pedal bracket (assuming chassis mounted pedals) vs the...

Re: power brakes for 40 ford

Why do you think you need a booster?

I would caution the use of power assist with 4 wheel Bendix style servo drum brakes on low to mid-weight vehicles, like your '40, because touchy heavy...

Re: Distribution Block Setup for Drum/Drum

Your original distribution block is an early disc/drum combination valve including proportioning and metering, and the "new" one you pictured is a later version of the same valve, and neither should...

Re: Help identifying generator mounts

The mount with the pin close to the center is the narrow belt location, while the one with the pin close to the front edge is for the wide belt.
