Like Kube, I have a couple of the older script batteries that have an Optima inside and was wondering the same thing. I was considering cutting around the bottom of the case and around where the posts come up through the top with maybe a hole saw the right diameter without the drill bit. There must be something there, either epoxy or a sealer. The bottom could be glued back on with a new battery inside with epoxy if cut with a fine tooth saw blade.. Has anyone tried something like that?
Didn't see the Ken/Alabama post, was replying to Kube's, Thanks Ken, will try that. |

This question has been asked and answered many times. There are several ways to skin this cat, and some of the older methods need modification today due to the taller Optima than in previous years. All methods have been described here on the Barn, seek and ye will find.

There are several styles of original Ford Script battery cases. The dimensions changed over time and so did the exterior appearance. Some original Ford Script battery cases are too short to install a modern Optima 6 volt battery inside. For example the Type 40 for 1935 and a few other years, is 5/8" shorter than the optima. Some other years the case is taller. It all depends on exactly which battery you are using.

Here's a link to what I did for a shorter battery case. Scroll down to post #9
