Ford Script Battery what kind of battery is in the New Ford Script Battery cases--an optima or something else ? one with cables inside?

Re: Ford Script Battery What are you referring to by "the New Ford Script Battery"?

Re: Ford Script Battery Several years ago the Ford script batteries had a full sized optima battery inside; now I hear they have a much smaller battery of some kind; and have cables going up to the posts; might have been pictures on the Barn, but can't find them

Re: Ford Script Battery They used to use optima way back , but had problems warrantying them, so they switched to XS Power batteries. I’ve had the ford script batteries for a few years now, they work really well. They’re under recently new ownership now and seem to be building back the supply with quality and reliability.

Re: Ford Script Battery AGM batteries are considered one of the safest batteries to use. All batteries carry the risk of fire and explosion is used improperly.
The XS Power D6V-38 is an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) lead-acid battery, which is a sealed, non-spillable type of battery. This technology is inherently safer and more resistant to fire hazards than some other battery types (like damaged lithium-ion cells) due to its construction and chemistry. It does not have a specific "fire safety rating" in the way that building materials might, but its design incorporates safety features. Fire Safety Information Technology: It uses AGM technology, meaning the electrolyte (acid) is absorbed into fiberglass mats rather than free-flowing liquid, which minimizes the risk of spills and makes it spill-proof. Sealed Construction: The sealed, valve-regulated design prevents the release of flammable hydrogen gas under normal operating conditions, further reducing fire or explosion risk, provided it is charged correctly. Safety Data Sheets (SDS): The manufacturer provides a Safety Data Sheet for their AGM batteries, which outlines safety precautions. It notes that precautions must be taken when working with lead-acid batteries due to the general risk of fire or explosion if not handled correctly (e.g., improper charging or short-circuiting). General Precautions: As with all batteries, users are advised to: Avoid exposure to fire or other sources of extreme heat. Charge the battery using the correct voltage and follow manufacturer instructions to prevent overcharging, which can damage the battery and potentially create a hazard. In summary, the D6V-38 is a safe product when used as intended, but it is not completely fireproof and should be handled with standard electrical safety precautions. For detailed safety information, you can consult the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheets available on their website. |

Re: Ford Script Battery Quote:
. I could have that all screwed up but that’s the general jist of it. If you read some threads on various forums there were rumors of a second company possibly in the works of offering these repro type batteries but I don’t know if there’s anything being offered as another consumer choice in this market. |
Re: Ford Script Battery I ordered a battery for my 1935 truck from Battery Central Mall and worked with Wayne in Virginia. At the time, a two years ago, a correct Ford script battery was shown. I ordered one only to find out it was on backorder. After waiting about a year, I called Wayne to see what the issue was. Turns out the Optima battery is about 5/8" too tall to fit in a correct 1935 battery case, so they aren't making it. I got a full refund, so no complaints.
I made my own conversion of an original 1935 Ford script battery to fit an optima and it's 5/8" taller with the bottom cut out and a spacer in place as I wanted the original look. Looks like Battery Central Mall lists a battery for 1935 Fords, but it's not the original case style, it's a case that will accept the optima battery. It just depends on how picky you are and if the replacement will fit your application. Just do your homework before spending $400. |
Re: Ford Script Battery OK, thanks. I thought Battery Central Mall is the only source now.
Yeah, Battery Central lists the same Ford script product for '33-'37. I doubt that original batteries under the floor were the same size as the '37. But Battery Central does have a specification page showing the battery case size, so you can do your homework. BTW, the battery inside is an AGM type, as an Optima. But Optima is a brand name, and Battery Central does not say their AGM is the Optima brand. |
Re: Ford Script Battery 1935 Fords use a Model 40 Ford Script battery case. If you are interested, post #9 shows on the thread link below shows one way to modify an old original case have an Optima battery inside.

Re: Ford Script Battery I'm still (slooooowly) working on a 3D printed case for a red top Optima. I'm about 65% of the way there. It should be the most accurate Ford battery out there when done.

Re: Ford Script Battery Looking forward to your results.

Re: Ford Script Battery Has anyone replaced an old Optima that is inside a Ford script case? I have a few of those and would like to attempt a swap.
