what kind of battery is in the New Ford Script Battery cases--an optima or something else ? one with cables inside?

Several years ago the Ford script batteries had a full sized optima battery inside; now I hear they have a much smaller battery of some kind; and have cables going up to the posts; might have been pictures on the Barn, but can't find them

They used to use optima way back , but had problems warrantying them, so they switched to XS Power batteries. I’ve had the ford script batteries for a few years now, they work really well. They’re under recently new ownership now and seem to be building back the supply with quality and reliability.

Now that's a scary one. How many Mini-Mobility Device fires does it take to spook you? Check with the fire department, they've got fire safety ratings for those batteries.

AGM batteries are considered one of the safest batteries to use. All batteries carry the risk of fire and explosion is used improperly.

Those are lithium battery fires; the battery inside the script cases is an AGM battery; totally different thing.

My bad. I looked up the company and only saw Lithium batteries. The listed battery is indeed an AGM. At 550 CA, it may be a little short of power in less than desirable conditions, but ok for good conditions.

Who is the "they" you are referring to? Is there only one source for Ford script batteries?

Yes only one as far as I know, it was originally called antique auto battery I believe? Then Jim’s Batteries who worked for them and now Battery central Mall., a fellow named Wayne in Virginia , which distributes them as I don’t believe you can order retail from Jim’s any longer?

I could have that all screwed up but that’s the general jist of it.

If you read some threads on various forums there were rumors of a second company possibly in the works of offering these repro type batteries but I don’t know if there’s anything being offered as another consumer choice in this market.

I ordered a battery for my 1935 truck from Battery Central Mall and worked with Wayne in Virginia. At the time, a two years ago, a correct Ford script battery was shown. I ordered one only to find out it was on backorder. After waiting about a year, I called Wayne to see what the issue was. Turns out the Optima battery is about 5/8" too tall to fit in a correct 1935 battery case, so they aren't making it. I got a full refund, so no complaints.

I made my own conversion of an original 1935 Ford script battery to fit an optima and it's 5/8" taller with the bottom cut out and a spacer in place as I wanted the original look.

Looks like Battery Central Mall lists a battery for 1935 Fords, but it's not the original case style, it's a case that will accept the optima battery. It just depends on how picky you are and if the replacement will fit your application. Just do your homework before spending $400.

Yeah, Battery Central lists the same Ford script product for '33-'37. I doubt that original batteries under the floor were the same size as the '37. But Battery Central does have a specification page showing the battery case size, so you can do your homework.

BTW, the battery inside is an AGM type, as an Optima. But Optima is a brand name, and Battery Central does not say their AGM is the Optima brand.

1935 Fords use a Model 40 Ford Script battery case. If you are interested, post #9 shows on the thread link below shows one way to modify an old original case have an Optima battery inside.

I'm still (slooooowly) working on a 3D printed case for a red top Optima. I'm about 65% of the way there. It should be the most accurate Ford battery out there when done.
