Re: 6 Volt Batteries
I bought a group 1 battery from O'Reilly Auto Parts a few years ago and have been perfectly happy with it. I just started up my Model A a few weeks ago after sitting dormant since early December and...

Re: Threaded 2-piece crankshaft pulley
Thanks for your response, fordfixer. I didn't think of that. I can see where that would be a problem with left-hand threads on the pulley and right-hand threads on the ratchet nut. Maybe that's...

Threaded 2-piece crankshaft pulley
I've read several posts on the pros and cons of two piece crankshaft pulleys so I'm aware of the potential problems related to the notched type that Snyder's and Bratton's sells. My question...

Re: Horn - New vs Original
I recently bought a new A&L horn to replace my old worn out Stewart Warner. Now, I'm no expert on ahooga horns, but to my ears the A&L has a beautiful sound. It appears to have top-notch construction...

Re: Anyone tried a Nu-Rex timing wrench?
I agree that a tool like this is a waste of money for some folks. But I didn't start this thread for the benefit of experienced mechanics. I asked about this tool for the benefit of those, like...

Re: Model A,,, a transition car??
One of the things I got along with my Model A was a fairly sizeable collection of back issues of The Restorer magazine.
The Mar-Apr 1977 issue has a photo on the front cover of Henry's '29...

Re: Anyone tried a Nu-Rex timing wrench?
Wow, I didn't quite expect this many replies. So based on all the positive responses by those who've actually used the tool, I'm concluding that it does a pretty good job, quickly and easily. Those...

Anyone tried a Nu-Rex timing wrench?
I'm just curious about that Nu-Rex timing wrench that the vendors sell.
Supposedly you use the timing pin to find TDC, loosen the cam screw, rotate the tool a few times, stop when it touches the...

Re: Loose Distributer Body
Cape Codder, thanks for taking the time to measure your distributer bodies. However, I'm not sure what it is that you measured. My upper body has a machined area where it mates to the base. When I...

Re: Loose Distributer Body
Thanks for your replies, guys. I'm hoping it's just the body that's out of tolerance. Once I can verify that's the case then I'll probably replace it, assuming I can find one that's snug. The tape...

Loose Distributer Body
I was working on my distributer a few days ago and I noticed that there was some electrical tape wrapped around the inside perimeter of the upper body where it mates with the base. I removed the tape...

Re: Brass GAV Seat Question
Well, I figured I was being too nit picky, but I like things to look right if at all possible. I guess I better screw the seat back in tight and not worry about how it looks.
Thanks for your...

Wow, that is suprising. I'll give it a try and see if it makes a difference.

Brass GAV Seat Question

USA or Import Steering Gears?
I've been thinking about rebuilding my 7-tooth gearbox lately due to the fact that I have about 5 or 6 inches of play in my wheel. It makes it really exciting to drive on a windy day.
Anyhow, I...

Re: Am I asking for trouble
I replaced my 4 studs with the new bolts without any problems at all. I applied some liquid wrench on them and let it soak in for a few hours. The studs came out easily with vise grips.

Re: cast iron drums
Check out Brattons. They carry ductile iron hubs and drums that are made in the USA. They claim they're 2 times stronger than standard cast iron.

Re: Stewart Warner Armature Threads
Make it 39! I found out that they were left hand threads after I broke mine. I had to glue the ratchet wheel on with JB Weld. It worked for a while until the windings started shorting out due...
