Backfiring

When I let up on the accelerator at cruising speed, the engine lets out a soft pop, also when I go downhill with the engine in 3rd gear and foot off the accelerator I hear soft pops. What causes...

Re: ignition coil ballast resistor

I appreciate all the responses above. They have cleared up the question for me. Oddly, I have a 12volt coil labeled as "super hot " that measures 1.5 ohms so I installed it with a 1.5 ohm ballast...

Engine ticking noise

My engine has a ticking noise that increases with rpm and can be heard at idle when stopped. I think it is a valve clearance noise. If it is valve noise is it normal? I have heard it on some other...

Re: Pacemakers and Model A ignition systems

I am reactivating this old thread to bring this subject to the attention of the group. My post #1 explains the issue. I have since had more MRI's and the Medtronic unit has made it possible. Just...

Re: TDC Finder

Re: Car fails to acheave high speed

Dann, There is a hard stop---no screw adjustment--- on the throttle against the carb. The accelerator rod should allow the throttle to touch the stop. Check that the hand throttle does too. Bill G

Re: Starter Bendix bolt broken

Two things to talk about: 1---try a rare earth magnet, one about the size of a quarter, put it on the ring gear, turn it around with the crank and the bolt should be attached to it when it comes...

A friend of mine recently complained that his new car (to him) was not able to go faster than 40 mph and was unable to climb grades very fast and barely made it to the top of steep grades. He changed...

Re: Dead Pertronix Coil

After reading many posts on this forum in the past months I have learned that oil-filled coils should be mounted terminals up on an A. If they are tar or epoxy-filled they can be mounted either way....

Re: Trouble changing fan belt

Again, it doesn't matter. The space is fixed between the crank pulley rim and engine mount flange as long as the mount is attached to the engine. And the starting crank does enter the bushing -- ...
