Re: Factory style wiring harness

I’d check with Chris at Bauer. When I ordered my harness he knew to ask if I had headlight relays added on back in the day, which I did. Would never have known to ask.

Re: Finally a real world Ardun test!

I talked with Steve before the video came out while checking on my flathead with Ed Smith. He was quite happy with it.

How to remove 1935 dash light switch

I haven’t had any luck getting the dash light switch out on our ‘35 coupe. Any tricks?

Re: Battery Suggestion

Been there, did that. But that was in the 1970s, now that I'm in the '70s I'm not sure if I'm interested in doing that or that I still can.

Re: “Correct” fan belt doesn’t fit

The earlier pumps in the heads belt fits nicely. Now I just need to find someone in Phoenix that needs a new ‘37+ one to donate to.

Re: “Correct” fan belt doesn’t fit

Nah, it was blue when I took it out. Expected green but cleaning off 60-70 years hid the blue. Probably due to it being an OEM dealer replacement engine.

Re: “Correct” fan belt doesn’t fit

It is the same engine, Ed Smith rebuilt it for me.

Re: “Correct” fan belt doesn’t fit

That’s likely it. The ‘37 was a factory exchange block back in the day when the dealers did that.

Re: Next question, oil pressure sender grounding condenser

That could be it. We have the original bill of sale and it includes the radio as the only option.

Next question, oil pressure sender grounding condenser

I can’t find anything on this condenser connected to the oil pressure sender on my ‘35 with a ‘37 engine. I’d prefer to replace it while I’m rewiring the car.

Any ideas on part numbers and/or...

“Correct” fan belt doesn’t fit

The listed 78-8620-B fan belt doesn’t even come close to fitting over the second water pump on my ‘37 21 stud engine. Generator is fully down. Water pumps are listed as correct for a ‘37, though you...

Re: What did you do today that was flathead V8 related?

Lived in Dublin for five years, the Irish have even more creative, albeit not PC terms that I suspect that the moderators wouldn’t care for.

Re: What did you do today that was flathead V8 related?

Drilled out the bloody steering column anti-theft bolt. Needed to do that to get the bloody horn rod out to get the bloody light switch c-clip sorted. Which it turned out wasn’t needed. Oh well,...

Re: How to install cross brake mechansim return spring

Where can I find one of these, nothing shows up on the interweb? Failing that, does anyone know what the spring rate (i.e. pounds/inch) is for improvising something? My current spring is only 80%...

Optima 6v batteries and third brush generator

How well do Optima batteries handle third brush generators? I understand that they can be a bit sensitive to voltages which I understand third brushes vary quite a bit.

Re: 35 vaporlock

Ed Smith used freeze plugs in the block on my engine. No real need for vaporization on Arizona cars.

Re: 1936 starter button HOT!

I’m seeing around 0.2 ohm resistance across the original 90 year old starter switch. Is this normal?

Plus one for Chris at Bauer, I just unboxed the full kit for our ‘35 and everything is first rate quality. Schematics for each assembly are clear. He even knew enough to ask to see the firewall to...

Re: What did you do today that was flathead V8 related?

Went to see and listen to the dealer exchanged ‘38 engine for our ‘35 that Ed Smith rebuilt. Apparently the dealer found an oddball 21-stud ‘38 when the uncle had them do the swap. No idea when.

Re: soft center section of steel foof cars.

I opted to not use any caulk;

-It doesn't rain very often in Arizona.
-The 3M caulk strips that I ordered glued themselves together before I could use them.
-It was a major PITA getting the old...

Re: soft center section of steel foof cars.

That cross- section shows the padding and inner liner stopping at the edge of the opening. I opted to extend the bottom two layers to the inner edge of the channel. That way the top stays supported...

Re: soft center section of steel foof cars.

Here’s before and after results. Not happy about the wrinkles but it was 105F when I finished so I hope that they smooth out. Getting the thick vinyl in plus the liners was a pain.

Re: soft center section of steel foof cars.

By luck the A kit that I ordered had enough material for exactly two inserts.
