Default stgarter removal on 1955 272wha

how do you remove starter from a 272 automatic. got it loose but can not get it out of the engine. how do you get it out ?

If the starter is indeed loose with all three mounting bolts removed, then it is probably hung up on the bendix drive.
The bendix is quite large and mounted AFTER the much smaller pinion drive gear. It will hang up on the flexplate. You have to tilt the starter around to remove it. Ford called it the 'Folo-Thru'.

As I remember, it is easier to remove if you have just run the engine and shut it off without trying to restart it. This will leave the Bendix (drive gear) retracted thus easier to remove. If you have cranked the engine over without starting, the Bendix gear has extended into the flywheel teeth making it harder to remove.
