Default 6 volt or 12 volt

Good morning fellows i’m from the 50,s part of the barn i’ve restored a 1931 model A some time ago and have worked on a few model T my ? is one was converted to 12volts and one is 6 volts both vehicles are 1925 model i was told years back from a good friend that a lot of owners convert to 12 volts for better starting and brighter lights just like so many of us with 6 volt cars do just would like your thoughts on this thanks Joe

It is not necessary and your lights won't be any brighter then the bulbs you will need to buy. The starter might last a while before it will fail.

The ignition will work on either voltage. Light bulbs have to be changed to work on 12-volts. The generator is a big question as far as how well it would work on 12-volts with a solid state voltage regulator modification. The starter bendix may suffer on 12-volts unless modified for slower operation on the higher voltage.

I would stick with OEM systems but many people have modified them to 12-volt and been happy with the results.

Thanks for the info i’m going to suggest to this fellow that a good 6 volt system will work just fine like it did in its day i didn’t no if the coils could take the extra voltage on my 50 cpe i re did the whole system under the hood and used the proper size cables and never had a problem again thanks for the info

I use a 12 volt battery on my 1919 T for starting and my cell phone but run it on the mag.
The headlights are run on the mag.
