6 volt or 12 volt Good morning fellows i’m from the 50,s part of the barn i’ve restored a 1931 model A some time ago and have worked on a few model T my ? is one was converted to 12volts and one is 6 volts both vehicles are 1925 model i was told years back from a good friend that a lot of owners convert to 12 volts for better starting and brighter lights just like so many of us with 6 volt cars do just would like your thoughts on this thanks Joe

Re: 6 volt or 12 volt It is not necessary and your lights won't be any brighter then the bulbs you will need to buy. The starter might last a while before it will fail.

Re: 6 volt or 12 volt The ignition will work on either voltage. Light bulbs have to be changed to work on 12-volts. The generator is a big question as far as how well it would work on 12-volts with a solid state voltage regulator modification. The starter bendix may suffer on 12-volts unless modified for slower operation on the higher voltage.
I would stick with OEM systems but many people have modified them to 12-volt and been happy with the results. |
Re: 6 volt or 12 volt Thanks for the info i’m going to suggest to this fellow that a good 6 volt system will work just fine like it did in its day i didn’t no if the coils could take the extra voltage on my 50 cpe i re did the whole system under the hood and used the proper size cables and never had a problem again thanks for the info

Re: 6 volt or 12 volt I use a 12 volt battery on my 1919 T for starting and my cell phone but run it on the mag.
The headlights are run on the mag. |
