I've got some pressed-in old style fittings (both straight nozzle and conical shaped). I have what I think is an adapter tip for the lube gun. When I attempt to pump in some grease - say into the brake actuating arms - I don't think I'm getting anything pumped in. There is of course nothing to snap onto.
I'd appreciate an education on this 'art'! |

Take that fitting out and use a regular fitting, fill with grease and then replace

You have to go straight at the original fitting. Hold it straight with some force. I use an old Alemite grease pump on mine.

Changing fittings is simple.

The old style fittings rely on the pressure of you pushing the grease gun to seal. The same action pumps the grease. They don't need to be screwed in because the pressure also keeps them in. It is a whole different technique from what you guys call a Zerk (had to look that one up).
Hold the gun square and push - job done.

Replacing the original style fittings with zerks on my car was a pain. The reproduction fittings are very slightly larger and do not fit easily.

I agree with Redbird, my old Alemite grease gun works best for me. I found it via an internet search.

You are aware that not all the repro. fittings are screw in fittings. Some that appear to have threads and are slightly larger are pound in with a slightly smaller socket than the wrench flats.

Here is what works for me on the original grease fittings. Usually a AI lead on EBay.

Yes, that is true. They were still hard to install. I never really finished. I have about original and half zerks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
