I had the same experience Don describes with the aluminum tool. My local store only had the aluminum one so I bought it. I spent about 30 minutes grinding and filing it. It then worked great.

Multiple people said to use the cork gaskets. My kit came with the neoprene ones. Is the issue the gas eating away at the neoprene?

How about one of you guy that modified the tools posting a picture of what you did? A before and after shop would be even better.
Thanks,
Jon

Basically all that's needed is to file or use a Dremel to smooth the flats on the inside of the wrench, so it slips over the flats on the gas guage nut. The tools seen to be a bit small due to the rough aluminum casting. The same goes for the outside of the aluminum tool for the small inner nut for the guage. Just file it smooth so it fits the nuts properly.

In the past, the rebuild kits came with both types of gaskets. If they don't come that way now, then you may have to buy a roll of cork and cut your own gaskets.
