Default End gap between cluster gear and trans case

Hi, Barners
I am assembling the trans for a Late 31 c/c pickup today. Do any of you trans guys know the proper end gap between the cluster gear and the trans case? I am using new bearings and gears and a late case. I am getting about .065 thousands total gap between the gear and housing. Does this sound like too much? Should I use some of the old style brass thrust washers? If I use the washers what is the ideal gap?
Thanks Guys, Don

I believe Jim Schild has a copy of an original print in his book that indicates .020" max.
