In most decent hardware stores you can buy short pieces of tube, but the correct size?

I would be looking in the dumpster at a tractor dealer for a chunk of hydraulic tube.

Then...JB weld it in.

Also, on ebay you can buy small pieces of metal or tube in any size.

Try Fred at Southside Obsolete or Michael Driskell at Third Gen.

You may have better luck if you buy a complete stand with tube . What engine is this for?

First measure how long you need. Lots of parts have been swapped over the years.
