'41 or '42 Engine and trans, value?

I bought this rolling chassis from a gentleman in Indy, he swore it was a '42, I'm convinced, thought the vin (IGA-89779) that its a '41. But Henry being Henry, at that time it could be a '42.

Is there any value in the engine and trans?

Looks like a '42 chassis based on the Panhard bar and the one body mount in the picture.

The chassis number matches '42 on Van Pelt's chart.

Can't help with any idea of the value of the 6 banger & trans; but I believe you would have a very limited market.

If the engine is free, get it running and put it on Market Place.

One of the flathead 6's is more sought after than the other. I can't remember if it is the G or the H engine that people want. I had one of each. One sold quickly. The other I scrapped.

Thank you!! I looked it up on there, and I honestly can't tell, how do you decode it? Doesn't IGA = 41, then a 2GA = 42?

The car model number changed each year, 1GA,2GA,6GA but the
serial number with the 6cyl for the different years started with 1GA.

There is limited part support for the G engine. The H is only slightly better with repop items.

I can vouch for the somewhat limited parts availability for the G-Series. I am in the process of restoring one now….parts are still out there, but you have to know where to look.

I understand the 6 cylinder engines are good, smooth running, and reliable engines with a ton of torque, but unfortunately, many people don’t find them anywhere near as sexy as the 8 cylinders. But hey, even the homely girls deserve love too! And lots of them have better personalities!

I know for example that the transmission casting is unique to the 6-cylinder (even though the internal gears are the same as the V8). It is pretty rare to find one, and would be worth good money to someone who is looking for one. Same thing for the manifolds, and several other parts. In other words, if you don’t find someone to take the whole thing right away, you should seriously consider parting it out.

Correct, the exhaust manifold, the thermostat housing, and the water pump core would have value to the right buyer.

It is also true that the I6 will never turn heads as the V8 can.

Distributor is special. Many WW2 military vehicles used the G eng. It was preferred by the US Government. Try the site 503.com - all military. Newc

Thanks! He had mentioned something about, it being a military sedan. I'll have to check it out.
