To quickly check your coil ,if you hadn't .On a continuity check with a multimeter put the red probe on the + and the black on the -. If you get a reading its closed or good,if not its an open circuit so no good.

The entire car wire harness is less than 10 years old. I bought a high quality wire harness., from New England harness I think was the name. It was very high quality wiring and expensive. Last edited by FrankWest; 08-27-2024 at 08:47 AM. |

no snap heard.
I removed the ground cable from the battery. Now I test for continuity between the ground cable and the positive battery terminal My starter works fine. Last edited by FrankWest; 08-27-2024 at 09:31 AM. |

Your not checking for continuity, you need to be checking to see IF there is "voltage" flowing from the battery to ground. Even if you have an open ground, everything will still work as it should Frank. IF you get a reading on your multi meter from the ground cable to the post then something some where is grounding.

That is an easy test, you can check to make sure you have 6V + going into the switch THEN switch the car on and check the "out" terminal and you "should" see the same voltage.

Step 0 was to check if you had voltage to the input to the coil and if not to work your way through steps. You just said you can't read any voltage "out of the coil" Does that mean no voltage at either the + or - terminal? |

I jumpered the key switch and my car amp meter started registering.
not with starting but when i turn the lights on and off. Now the kicker, I removed the jumber and the ammeter is registering with lights and horn. Where is rod serling when you need him. |

Now when I press the starter, the ammeter jiggles. I was told this jiggling is the points opening and closing? Is that true? Now maybe the problem is in the distributer itrself?
