Lee,I've never heard of a solenoid exploding.How did that happen?i've seen a lot of them go bad,but never actually open up.

Ok Abbie, I'll answer your question.. I put the solenoid on the firewall near the starter, I put a quality push button switch in the dash rail to the left of the steering wheel. I would use a quality push switch capable of handling not less than 10 A momentarily.

The lightweight mini starter that I have (came from Snyder's) has the solenoid built in.

type starter drive.

Went to Snyder’s website and read the info on the starter. After reading the posts, still unclear if there is a 12v solenoid built in. Looking at the wiring diagram, it appears that there is. Need to know.

The instructions that came with mine said you could use the internal solenoid or bypass it and use an external one. I already had an external one, so I didn't use the internal one.
