There are several options that I have seen so far. One is changing the ring and pinion in the rear end. Being that your model is a truck I do not know if you intend to pull a trailer or haul anything with it so I am not sure if this option is best. Another option is an overdrive which is good but also has the same downfall as changing the rear gears. You could upgrade the engine by installing higher performance parts such as a new cam, crank, oversize pistons, overhead valve head, downdraft carb or carbs, and headers. All of this though would cost a pretty penny and would make your model a less original even though some of these parts I mentioned were in fact available at the time. Personally I would go with installing a new balanced and dampened crank about $900 and a better cam another $100 then steel valves and a high compression head. All this can be done without changing the appearance of the engine but giving it much more power. then change the rear gears and you then have a stock looking model a that will keep up with modern traffic.
