@Stangblue
My best friend and I have had a LLLLOOOONNNNGGG standing argument about white wall tires and there "commonness" back in the day and their current use today!!! You are correct and I have challenged him and any others to the fact that when you see old photo's and video of "back in the day" white wall tires and the use there of were more the "exception" than the "rule". I understand its someone else's car and they are free to do with what they want...and I'm free to dislike too!!!! |

I chose blackwall tires on my pickup for several reasons.
#1 There was a world wide depression going on and money was tight #2 Most roads in the 1930's were dirt or gravel once you left town. #3 Farmers were by nature frugal and wouldn't spend the necessary bucks. #4 Its a truck! It was made to work and work hard with no fancy frills. |

I ran into this guy and his junker at the Gettysburg show. It was nice seeing you again Ken and I enjoyed all of the conversation. Next meet I attend I'll volunteer to help judge.

Someone should feel sorry for us! If I'd seen her, I would have signed her up and seated her at your table since you have such a nice relationship with her. I don't know what Barbara might have said, though! |

On the subject of White Wall Tyres, I recently wrote a Library Report for our local Early Ford V8 Club. I reviewed the book "The Early Ford V8 as Henry Built it" by Edward P Francis and George DeAngelis. Following was my comment on White Wall Tyres:- "While White Wall Tyres are seen on a big percentage of early Ford V8’s these days, including my own 1934 Fords, after reading this book, it appears that 1936 was the first year that White Wall Tyres appeared on the Accessory List of available options. The earliest photo of cars with WW Tyres is a picture of the new 1935 Fords in a New Car Showroom. None of the 1932, 1933 or 1934 Fords illustrated have White Wall Tyres. Also, another interesting point is that the WW Tyres on these cars are Double Sided, something that is very rare these days on restored vehicles. It is also unusual to see the original photos of Commercial Fords, a 1938 Ford Pickup and a 1938 Panel Delivery with WW Tyres." These were my observations while reading and researching this great book. All photos used in the book are original photos when the cars were new. I highly recommend this book which covers the years 1932 through to the 1938 models. |

Thanks for the Gettysburg pictures. Good variation, keeps your interest. Missed the '42 as I walked around. The '37 Ford Coal truck was super.

Ron was correct in identifying this Coal Truck that was on display at Gettysburg as a 1937 Ford V8. |

My apologies. Of course he was right. Don't know why I had that truck in my mind as a '35. What's worse, I have a '37 myself. I'll crawl back in my hole now...

Hi Everyone. Regarding JM's photos from post #16.
The blackwall tire photo is from Florida, at one of Vic's Barner's Bash Picnics. The one with the whitewalls is taken in Marlyand. One thing that throws you off a little is the older Florida photo he's got a curved stem mirror on the passenger side, and in the newer Maryland photo he's switched to the straight stem mirror. The car really looks different with the two combinations, actually it looks great both ways, but I'm liking the blackwalls for my next purchase for my '35 with tires from 1984.

Hi Everyone, Every event needs good volunteers, you might know that from your church work and your grandkids' schools.
Interested in being in charge of getting sponsors for our next event? It only takes a phone call or two. It happens over a weekend if that helps, Wed June 7 thru Sun June 11 in Chantilly, VA.

I wish ONE of the Florida groups or combo of such could get together and put on an Eastern National Meet. Its ashamed that In 50 years of the EFV8 Club that such a notion can't gain traction!!!
