Re: Engine Stand

I would get rid of that three wheel engine stand ASAP. It's just a disaster waiting to happen. I just bought a nice four wheel one from Harbor Freight. Works a charm!!

Re: Running Poorly

I vote for a new condenser. I had these same symptoms on my 6cyl F-1 a few years ago. Don't spend your time trying to see how hot the spark is. Bite the bullet! Condenser aren't very expensive!!

Re: Primer for YOM plates

My coupe is registered in PA with a YOM plate. You must go to the state web site to screen the number. The registration shows that number - I do not have another set of regular plates. I had the...

Re: Model A Registration Woes

Because Maine is a no-title state I think you should be able to slide through. Just go down to your town hall and file the paperwork. I've done it before with successful outcome. Go to the town hall...

Re: Couldn't Resist It

Well, sometimes it's better than you might expect. I bought a pig in a poke engine last year and just found the main bearings to be 0.003" with shims still in the engine. Whew!!

Re: Who Remembers Model "A" Parts in the Sears Catalog?

Yes - I remember!! Not much of a selection. I think they were probably made in the USA. This was before the offshore suppliers really got rolling.

Re: 8 volt battery in 6 volt car

Millions of Model A's (and later v-8's) were built and ran very happily on 6 volts. It ain't broke!! It doesn't need to be fixed!! Going to higher voltages masks problems. It doesn't fix them.

Re: What spark plugs are you currently using?

Back in the day (50's-60's), C-4's were considered the standard plug. How times change!! I had never heard of a 3-X until last year when I got back into the Model A world.

Re: Where do I store stuff??

There's a really cool tool box that fits between the front "horns" just in front of the radiator. Looks like it belongs there. That's the good news. The bad news is I don't think they are made...

Re: Is there such a thing as a 6 volt heater?

If you are going to run a hot water heater I suggest that you use a 180 degree thermostat.

Re: Cotter pins

I think that if your car is so perfect that you are worried about the finish of the cotter pins and the shape of their heads you're in pretty good shape!!

Re: Cotter pins

My dad straightened rusty nails and kept old screws - depression mentality. Times have changed. I would not recommend reusing a cotter pin!!
