The three bolts holding the starter are not the same length! If you put a longer one in that hits the flywheel, It will act as if the engine is locked up. I would pull the starter and see if things...

We installed a new battery.getting a good hot spark at the points but not the coil wire. Going to put the new coil in today.

Corley, I am getting spark at the points when I open and let them close with my finger. If I turn the key on, the first time the points open when being turned with the starter, I only get one spark...

Why am I not getting spark from the coil wire to a head bolt? with the key on, 6.25 volts on each side of the coil. We may just take the distributor out and clean everything as Tom suggested.

We cleaned the points. No different than before. Good spark opening and closing points with my finger. 6.25 on both sides of amp gauge and both sides of coil with key on. Grandson is learning...

OK, I am going to get a new exhaust and intake manifold like Mitch suggested. My question is, what gasket do I get and should I use the gland rings in the exhaust ports?

Do you have a fuse in the system? I have seen them get loose at the rivets and not make good contact. Bypass this system and see if it runs better.

If you look at a lot of cars up close you will see this very problem. Some with rough paint, to blisters. to rust starting in that area. Wax and dirt get in the joint between the belt line and body...
