Getting Ready for Spring: 28 Touring
Hello Ford Barners.
Thanks to all who have helped with projects over the winter. The attached pics are taken today with the engine (A 11739) running. The lense timing must have been quick enough to capture the fan as if standing still. Idle Speed Fully Retarded: 430 RPM. Speed 3/4 Advanced: 550 RPM. Ambient temperature in my shop: 43 degrees F. After warming up, GAV open by 1/4 Turn. Winter Projects Update: *Water Pump rebuilt and refinished. Took out leakless feature and running on gland nut packing only. Per Tom W's advice. Installed correct fanblade per Fred M Coolant is 60% Distilled Water, 40% Green Ethyl Glycol AF, per responses to my question from FB'rs. *Powerhouse - cleaned, lubricated and refinished. *Distributor - rebuilt square slot e28 with all new bushings, condenser points, wire, rotor and using genuine large and small caps. Referenced Marco T. timing instructions in his white paper. *Hoses - installed new red stripe types. *Lower Coolant Pipe - replaced with original. *Spark Plugs - Champion 3X, cleaned, gun blueing on steel, brass polished, re-gapped. *All Fasteners - re-torqued to specs. *Popout Cable - refinished original makers plate with a black lacquer wash, then rubbed off to show embossed lettering. *Coil High Tension Lead - took off incorrect dust shields. The engine is now running better than ever. "Rolling" idle effect is much reduced. Vibration and ticking noises are gone. Believe that this has to do with the rebuilt distributor and proper timing more than anything. As you can see, most of the other changes are cosmetic. To Do, as far as I know today: *Refinish and install e28 engine splash pans. *Keep working on the water pump - it is leaking slowly at the gland nut. *Continue fine tuning the motor, gas and electric, to see if I can get a near perfect idle. Again, many thanks to all you helpful A owners. Regards, Martin Mindling Watertown, Ohio |

Re: Getting Ready for Spring: 28 Touring
It looks excellent.
The only thing I'm wondering about is the water inlet and firewall clips to hold the steel tube for the wire. I thought they were only black, but I've seen a couple people now with cad plated clips. Did this change? |
