Default More Winter Projects: Tool Display

Here's another winter project for my Model A.
A cabinet-maker here in SE Ohio made this case out of 3/4" solid cherry.
Brass clasps, handles and a heavy duty brass piano hinge, lined with green
felt on top of peg-boards. Cherry wood is stained and eight coats of clear. It is very heavy, without the tools.

Question for FB'ers: Should I mount the Ford step plate and MARC medallion on the case, or put it inside?? Kind of hate to drill holes in
the beautiful wood.

Now, need to finish the tools (painting, etc.) and mount them in the case with zip-ties through the peg-board.

Let me know comments,

Regards,

Martin Mindling Watertown, Ohio [email protected]

I like the plain one. But it is your case, do what YOU like.

I agree, why hide that beautiful solid cherry wood? As small suggestion- It all looks nice and 'vintage' now. I think if you use modern zip ties to secure the tools as you stated, it will loose the look. What would they have used "back in the day"? Heavy brass picture wire? Flat strips? Black mechanics wire? Colorfully woven silk fly line? Leather lacing bow-tied in front across the tools? Or. . .? Finishing touches say everything.

If I had original tools, for myself, I would build one from vintage wood & use Chief's old leather belts for loose fitting straps to hold the tools. For now, I'm holding the belts intact, thinking of using them for quickly installed, temporary, hood hold down straps as a tribute to DAD. Bill W.

Bill, I bet you'd use dog collars to strap in the tools!

May as well, Tom, He won't EVER let me install his Model A Collar, even though it sports a 50 year Sierra Chapter MAFCA pin. This guy's his own man, that's why I adore him! (nothing bad) He seems to have inherited some wild dog traits from each of his ancestors that made up the Rat Terrier. Yes, this is Model A related, as he's a walking shop manual. Bill W. (And if we get thrown off the Barn, we'll CRY all the way to the garage, finish Vermin, & go crusin' somewhere!)
