I've decided that the right thing to do is have my model B engine completely rebuilt. It needs a valve job and it has a ridge at the top of the cylinders so rather than try to get by with just a few quick fixes I'm going for the whole shootin' match. My question is this.....what are my options for rebuilders in eastern Washington or north Idaho? I'm cool with retaining babbit bearings but would go for inserts if it wasn't too much more money. I've got a quote at Antique Auto Ranch in Spokane for $2000 which will include new valves, springs, lifters, cam, bored with new pistons, ground crank with new babbits, new timing set.....basically a completely new short block completely balanced with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. It sounds like a decent deal but I want to see if anyone knows of another place "local" to me that I should check in to. I just found out about Strong Engine in Liberty Lake east of Spokane but haven't been able to get ahold of them yet.
I realize that there are places like Antique Engine Rebuilders but I'd rather stay local....the cost I'd save in shipping could probably get me inserts. My engine is loaded in my pickup and I'm ready to drop the engine off this week so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. There's a 2 month turn around at Antique Auto Ranch so I want to get it up there asap so I can enjoy it before it snows...... If anyone has any experience with Antique Auto Ranch in Spokane I'd love to hear about that as well. Mike seems like a good guy and I'm sure it will be great, but I'm still a little nervous laying down that kind of cash. Thanks. |

You need to get a bunch of references and let quality be the determining factor . I do not know how many post you have read . I started at post 501 and read them in reverse chronicle order and I am now on 101 . A lot of info about good and bad rebulds . You might just do a search on rebuilds . Good Luck .

I (and others in my club) have been using Craig Warrick at Precision Engine for years. He has done all my motors, and I have been extremely pleased with his work.. He's in Nampa ID, so it may be a bit far for you, but he does Babbit, or Machined in Inserts, etc.. from Standard 40 HP builds up to OHC conversions and much 'warmer' motors..
IM me if you would like his contact info. - Dave |

The price sounds good for what he is doing. I paid more than that to have a long block rebuilt from my re builder.
If you want to drive to the Portland area, I have a guy here in this area that has done these things for many years. PM me if you are interested. He also is backlogged a few months.

I bought my '29 Tudor already restored, from a gentleman in Grayland, WA. He had the engine rebuilt by Antique Auto Ranch in Spokane, but I have little knowledge of how extensive the rebuild was.
What I can tell you is that she now has about 10,000 miles since the rebuild and she runs well and stong. No funny noises, and starts in less than one revolution. I added a HC head, which improved the performance even more. She's a very good girl. |

I like dealing with Tom, the owner of Antique Auto Ranch and his employees. Always been very helpful and go out of their way to help. I've know several people that have had their Model A and Model T engines rebuilt by Antique Auto Ranch, no complaints. |

Thanks for the input. I too have heard nothing but good things about Antique Auto Ranch. Looks like I'll be dropping off an engine on Friday. Hopefully 2 months will fly by.....
