I haven't heard that he is a crook. But from the response below, I concede that I might have been a bit naive in my thinking.

I went to Instagram, and now realise that the guy I was thinking of is "65tempest" (Rene Gonzalez from La Mirada) who was recently inducted as a full member of the Pasadena Roadster Club.

I had a reply from him re a 35 Coupe trunk lid and he used photos from Iron Trap finds Instagram page in PA and said he had them in Whittier CA, he then also replied to an add I had for a rear fender with photos I found on the internet that were actually 36 sedan guards, two red flags for me....so I walked away.

I've purchased some very hard to find parts from Rene with absolutely no complaints. One part was defective and he replaced it without question and shipped it on his dime. Just my experience. I would buy from him again with no reservations. Dan

Someone stole his Facebook profile info and started scamming people on there.

So its hard to tell you which is the real Rene and who is the scammer.

Be careful when buying anything online.
