Email renewal notice. Official looking with all the bells and whistles. Doesn’t address me by name or which car’s license is expiring or when. Doesn’t have any info it should have, but yes, sure enough, it has that button to click on to get more info. There you go, mister, in the garbage with you.

California DMV always send the renewals by mail. If you got one on your computer it's a fake.
