Default used oil flows like water

I am using Valvoline Daily Protection Non-Detergent SAE 30 Conventional Motor oil and just changed it and the old oil flowed out like water. Should I be using sae 40?

not really- the 30 is sufficient. Truthfully, either is fine, unless you are in an extremely cold climate.

Maybe it is diluted. Is your engine running excessively rich?

Did the old oil smell like gas?

Wow! Another question on oil. Everyone has their own ideas including me.

If it’s a higher mileage engine. I think SAE 30 might be to light. I like to use 20-50 HD. I could go on about why but this is just my go to Model A engine oil.

Do you have a downdraft carb and manifold by chance? If so, then a leaky float valve will run gas into the engine. Ends up in the oil.

All good comments.

I run Valvoline 20W-50 racing oil.

If it's diluted with a lot of fuel it'll definitely be thin!!!

Was the oil hot? Or had it been sitting and cooled down?
