Big truck axle salvage
In the process of moving, almost finished after 2 years, I have parted with
quite a number of things that I realize will never get wrenched by me. The last things to go are the axle assy's from a 37' 1 1/2 ton truck. That truck was used seasonally until the late 70's hauling produce to the public market . I need some input as to any parts that I should retain for future repairs to either of my runners (35' & 37"). If they become roadworthy the annual truck show is about 15 miles away and maybe a trip to the lumber yard; 11 miles. Those trips should at least warm up the grease. |

Re: Big truck axle salvage
If any of them are the 5.14 high speed ring and pinion for sure save the gears.

Re: Big truck axle salvage
On rare occasion the axle shaft breaks. It's something that's easily pulled from your extra rear end. The part is the same for both sides, so maybe keep one for future spare parts?

Re: Big truck axle salvage
Might consider inspecting and saving brake drums if decent.
