Can anybody who put Aerostar front coil springs on a '54-'56 Ford tell me what shocks you used when you changed to the Aerostar coils?

When I put the Aerostar springs in the bird they didn’t lower it much because the front springs had a coil trimmed off. I didn’t change the upper bump stock, so the full compression measurement didn’t change. I also didn’t remember that the shocks limited the drop (car jacked up, front wheels hanging) so I didn’t worry about full extension. I just bought a set of replacement higher quality gas shocks and called it good.
Been fine for years. The Aerostar’s are softer on the little bumps and firm up on larger ones or body roll, expected from the progressive winding. I really liked them. Should be about the same on a car, the control arms and spindles are the same. Just a bit more weight and probably more front end bias. |

miker98038 or Lamar Wadsworth,
Is there a chance you know if this part number is correct for the famed Aerostar springs? . Last edited by dmsfrr; 07-29-2023 at 11:05 PM. |

It's the correct number, and Amazon currently has the best price/w free shipping. I installed them on my 55 Tbird, but didn't realize a noticeable difference in front ride height. I do think it will be more noticeable on a full-size 54-56, based on posts left by full-size owners on different forums.

Here’s a link to an old post I made when I did the Aerostar springs. Can’t believe how old, time flies.
I just measured the car again, and it’s down 5/8” per side. But that’s due to a tire change. So no settlement in 12 years and a couple thousand miles. http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/To...r%20springs%20 |
