Default 1939 Ford Steel shackle

Hi All,

I plan on putting in my spring shackles on my 1939 ford deluxe and was just wondering if there is a correct way to install them, or will they just go in any way? I will attach a photo of the eye of the spring and also the shackle ( all steel) I will be using.

Any advice is appreciated!

Jim

You will have no trouble putting those in the spring as the eye can open a little when the shaft is being pressed in. You could have a lot of trouble when putting those into the other side due to it being a solid steel part with a hole in it (either front perch or rear axle housing). Those are not Ford parts so maybe will go in easy. NOS ones are a bear even when you have the KRW tool to install them. You might want to put the pins in your freezer for a couple of days before you try to install them. The ones with urethane bushings you can install with your fingers and if you are going to be judged, would lose the same number of points.
