1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
Hi
Asking for help on a 1965 Galaxie build sheet. It has a P engine for the police solid lifter engine (thanks KULTULZ for verifying this) here are some other questions of what I need to know what the codes meant POL PKG/TAXI PKG 7 Springs frt N rear L shocks B Rad Y Rear axle A4 Any help appreciated. KULTULZ have verified that the P for the engine is the police but that 1965 it was just that, everything else was ordered seperate and I would love to know if the 7 in the POL/TAXI just refers to the engine and nothing else or was it other things, such as springs, shocks etc. Thanks Steve |

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
I can't verify the parts, but I remember the HD or Police package contained may parts. HD radiator, springs, shocks, tires, brakes, fan, alternator and sometimes a different wire loom with wires for lights on the roof.

The 5th VIN P just identifies the engine the car was assembled with. There were several stages of POLICE OPTIONS according to what the police department needed/wanted (or was budgeted). The main trouble is going to be on a full POLICE OPTION LIST, most parts were not within the FORD MPC but was contained in separate POLICE CATALOGING. Now when you get the car, you are going to have try and find TRANS and REAR ID.TAGS to see what actually survived. We know the TRANS was swapped. If the BUCK TAG is still there, compare it with the PATENT PLATE. I am diligently working on it now that I have given you my actual E-MAIL addy ...

I have the car. I have hammered on my weekends & eves to get things back together cleaned up, brakes working and missing parts replaced. Its up drivin & stopping. I'm poor at writing and communicating. It does have the 4 speed transmission, I just messed up as far as when I decoded the vin tag. I was under it several times but didn't check for a tag on the rear & trans. Will do it as soon as it dries up and I'm home.It does have the 11x3 front brakes with manual adjusters. The rears are self adjusting. Where is the buck tag at on a Galaxie? Thanks again. Steve |

If it has been converted to a 4/S, the tag isn't important. Can you see if it is a W/4/S or F/4/S? You want to know how it came assembled, right? The BUCK TAG should be on the outer cowl below the hood/windshield.

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
Hi KULTULZ,
Sorry like a I said earlier I'm poor at writing what my brain is thinking. LOL Did the photos I emailed come thru with the vin breakdown I had wrote out? It is a toploader 4 speed. The vin number is on the firewall lip on the right side under the hood that matches the plate in the door. The buck tag is the thin metal plate with id is stamped in it? Monsoon rain and cold I cant look this eve, but will be checking asap. Thanks again |

I see no rear stabilizer bar for P/C until 1969. MARTI AUTO WORKS has the actual FORD information to break the LST but can only go back to 1967. You found the buck tag on the cowl/firewall? I always wondered if one could order the POLICE PACKAGE on a car to get the drive-train/stiffer suspension only. Looks like the guy found a way. THE HP car for 1965 had the 427.

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
Hi,
Emailed a photo of the plate I just took. I found the vin number stamped in the firewall lip on the right side but no buck tag. It will probably be week end before I can get under it. I did see C5AW8B on the end of the rear axle shaft. Thanks Steve |

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
The car may not have a BUCK TAG. It seems it varied between car lines and assembly plants.
Here is an info source for MUSTANGS - http://www.kcode.net/bucktags.htm The PATENT PLATE for the car AXLE CODE shows 3.25 non-locking. Can you E-MAIL me the DSO CODE as it is hard to make out in the photo sent? No need for the TRANS TAG INFO unless you want to know what it is out of and whether a close or wide ratio. Someone changed the drive-line. I cannot find a break-down for the LST. ***** This thread got split. Here is the first thread - https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=320429

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
Hi KULTULZ,
Well I lucked out on the rear. I was able to jack and block just enough to get nut off and get numbers off of tag and put back on. WDC-AC and that checks out 1965 9" Ford & Mercury 3:25. Could get under good but didn't see a tag on trans. Its 31 DSO code Cincinnati? Thanks again for all your help. Steve |

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
Here is a 1965 FORD PC ADV/SPEC SHEET -
https://copcardotcom.fotki.com/misce.../1965ford.html Finding info on a 65 is difficult. I would imagine the 7 is for a beefed suspension/braking. I guess going this route (SPECIAL ORDER POLICE) was cheaper than buying a 427 GALAXIE which should have had about the same suspension/braking.

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
Hi KULTULZ,
I appreciate your hard work trying to find out about the 1965. I agree 100% facts on the 1965 are definitely hard to come by. One fellow looked at it and said the rear was swapped and as it should have had a 31 spline rear axle with a sway bar. The tag on the rear matches the plate on the door for a open 3:25 and decodes to a 1965 3:25 open. I feel the rear is org. without a sway bar. I know it has the heavy front brakes, may never know for sure . With everyone's help here on the Fordbarn and with links to look at we know for sure the flat exhaust manifolds are correct. One other thing I find as odd on the PI 1964 and 1965 it shows a distributor with a vacuum advance for both years. The more I find out the closer to being original this 1965 is. Thanks again |

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
Well what gets me is that you say the front brakes have no self-adjusters as where the rear do. Something is off kilter there. The sheet I showed shows self-adjusters as optional on 65 PC. Did you measure the rear shoes when you had the drums off?
As for the rear, it may have been swapped and the guy just put the original tag on it. I see no rear stabilizer either on that sheet or in the MPC, though it may have been deleted and dropped in later cataloging. As for the DIST, the closed bowl was used only on the HP engines. They eat fuel. This sheet(s) is for 1964 PC - https://www.xr793.com/wp-content/upl...olice-Cars.pdf Need to find the same for 1965.

Re: 1965 Galaxie Build Sheet Questions
HI,
I appreciate you digging up all the info. No I didn't measure the rears. I need to do that. I'm learning more and more. One thing I am learning is that some of the die hard HIPO people don't know the differences in a true PI engine. I'm enjoying this FORD school! Thanks |
