I ordered this tool but it came without instructions. Any guidance on how to use this tool is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Cotter Pin Tool
No idea. But from the shape of it I would guess that it fits over the head and against the bolt or nut. I use a set of needle nose pliers that fit inside the loop at the head of the cotter pin and then the other end bends the two pins, one at a time or both to start. I start the bend with the pliers before using them as described above. For critical cotter pins I will hammer the ends tight against the castle nut to eliminate any movement. I trim them to the proper length before doing any bending.

Re: Cotter Pin Tool
From the picture I would guess that one uses it to push against the head of the cotter pin, holding it in place, while bending the ends.
Contact snyders and see what they have to say.

Re: Cotter Pin Tool
This is meant for cotter pins in things like clevis pins, where if you try to bend the cotter pin, the clevis pin just spins around on you. Hold the tool over the head of the cotter pin to keep it from spinning.

Re: Cotter Pin Tool
Thanks for the info. I am a new person to owning a Model A but saw that there were many cotter pins so I thought having a tool would be a good idea. I wish I had thought of the needle nose pliers trick but the tool only cost $7 so not a big expense. I am redoing the brake rods on this car so maybe I will get good use of this tool.

Re: Cotter Pin Tool
I used to laugh at the idea of a cotter pin tool until I was working on brake shoes. Makes the job so much easier. I wish that I had it sooner.

Re: Cotter Pin Tool
To bad Katy-Kotter is not around anymore. I found this in a tool basket at an antique store a while back. It is pretty handy.
