Merc At The Car Show

Had the 52 Merc out for it's longest road trip since 1969 today. Almost 50 miles round trip to a local car show and it ran just perfect. Cool weather in the 60s probably helped. Mercomatic is great for parades. Got some video of the show and trip to upload to youtube when I get a chance to edit. Its looking like I burned about half a (boat) tank of gas so maybe 3 gallons. Not bad.
My nephew came along with the Chevy ii as a support vehicle in case of any problems.

Nice picture ! I think this has been discussed on the Ford Barn before, but did '52 Merc's with the Mercomatic transmission really say Automatic on the trunk lid, or did some say Mercomatic ? Was your Mercury like that from the production line ?

I'm assuming its original as it has had "automatic" on the trunk lid since my dad bought the car used in 1959. I think I might have seen one other with it but most of the ads I see show "Mercomatic". Maybe its a Canadian thing?
Monarchs had the "automatic" script too but what I have seen have it just below the trunk lid.

Is that a early Nova. The early nova's are neat little cars.

Yes, door dents happened back in the summer of 86 when a runaway International truck rolled into the side of the Merc. The inner door panel is rough shape and would likely not survive removal and re-installation. Plus the drivers door glass is badly cracked and needs replacement.
Yes, its a 1964 Chevy II. I think the top of the line model was Nova but this is just a Chevy II. Been in the family since new.

Stuff happens. Probably doesn't make it not run down the road. I don't know much about chev's. But liked the little box ones over the 70s muscle novas. Mostly because you can stuff a hopped sbc in them. Be well! Nice hangout.

You could actually get a "FACTORY" '64 Chevy II with a 195 or 220 horse 283. In '65, they were available with a 250 and a 300 horse 327. In '66, you could get a 350 horse 327, and even as a Super Sport. DD

I'll have to check the original 1964 manual for the engine options. I believe there was a four cylinder option as well as the small V8 (283?) Mine has the 194 six rated at 120 hp. Slightly less than the Merc. But I can tell you in a drag race the little Chevy would leave the old Merc in the dust from start to finish. Mercs still my favourite though.

True...the infamous Chevy II 4-cylinder with 153 cu. in., exactly 1/2 (dimensionally) of a 307 Chevy V8. That little 4-cylinder was tough. Lots of them ended-up in Model As and mail trucks. DD

I had one of those little four cylinders in a White swather back in the 70s. The engine was the best part of the machine.
Got a bit of a preview video uploaded to youtube showing the view down the highway through the Merc's windshield. It kept up with traffic just fine.
