Tire tubes and age.
My tire tubes are 60 years old should they be replaced? They have never gone flat. Tires are a bit dry rotted, have small fine cracks in the side walls but plenty of tread but, are also 60 years old. I just checked the air pressure before topping them off none were lower than 30lbs.

Re: Tire tubes and age.
If you plan to drive the car, they should all be replaced at this age, tires and tubes. It's not just a matter of inconvenience if a tire goes flat. It's a safety issue. If a tire blows while driving, you can lose control and really get hurt (or hurt someone else).

Re: Tire tubes and age.
If you can find tubes that are as good as those you might be ahead with replacement. Your old trusted tubes will sure be sad to have lost your faith.

Re: Tire tubes and age.
New tires, GOOD tubes, and tube guards.
Ask someone who has had a blow out. |

Not sure you will get many answers - use at your own risk. I have seen posts where some have used old tires and tubes, but do you feel lucky? Possibly going in a ditch, getting hurt, hurting someone else?
Your decision. |

Re: Tire tubes and age.
As long as the stem to tube rubber looks good they'll be fine. A tube's job is to seal the air into the tire, not keep the tire from blowing. If they don't leak and stems are fine, you'll be fine. However new tubes aren't very expensive.

Then there is the problem if you had an accident that could in any way be blamed on the tires the other party's lawyer would have a field day. I would replace them.

your response at least requires identification of "THE" big tire company.
what company exactly are you referring to in your post? |

Re: Tire tubes and age.
Good afternoon...You might wish to ask your insurance company...They could have a line in their policy that says 'ten years' or something like that. The speed you drive has a lot to do with tire safety. 35 miles an hour is far different than 45 miles an hour to a 'senior' tire! Ernie in Arizona

Re: Tire tubes and age.
If a rear tire blows out, you are in big trouble. Don’t trust them.
If you have a model A, you should never have old tires. That means you are not driving it enough. Drive it often and hard. It will love you for it. |

Re: Tire tubes and age.
I just replaced a set of Firestone 19” tires that were 32 years old - they had small cracks in the outer ply, but had less than 3000 miles on them. Since i’m About to start touring with a very active local club, I decided to replace tires and tubes. No sense taking a chance.

Re: Tire tubes and age.
Apparently you guys haven't purchased any of the junk inner tubes that are being sold. They blow up putting air in them before you even put them back on the car. A friend had aired one up, had it leaning against the car and when he came back from lunch it had blown. And then they fight that it's not their fault. And they have the only game in town for some sizes. If I had old tubes that held air I would use them.
