Blew The Rear End In My '40 coupe
Broke two teeth off the ring gear.
Now I'm having a hard time finding parts for it. (ring & pinion) No new ones seem to be around. Any ideas where to find some new or used gears or a whole rear end? 3.78 Thanks in advance! |

There's one for sale on HAMB.

Put a wanted ad here and on the EFV-8 club website classifieds. There are plenty of good used parts available for these early Ford banjo rears, but new "quality" bearings are becoming difficult to find.

As always, try Southside Obsolete ("barnfind08" on here); he has a lot of NOS stuff.

Re: Blew The Rear End In My '40 coupe
Speedway and a few other early Ford parts dealers usually have the best price on these repro gear sets. They are all coming from the same original sourse, so may as well go for the lowest price. I believe Speedway is offering free shipping as well. Several friends are using these gearsets in their early Ford V-8's with no problems reported.

A good time to consider, up grading to a more modern drive train. Pretty simple to convert your trans to open drive and install a modern rear end. Might be cheaper in the long run.

Re: Blew The Rear End In My '40 coupe
If you can find a replacement for a reasonable price, by all means go for it. However, unless your restoring an original car, with original parts. Then upgrading to a better, more modern component. Will probably increase the value of your vehicle. This falls under the category of the daily driver.

Re: Blew The Rear End In My '40 coupe
I'd look at a 3.54 ratio depending on terrain, ect.... They are available. Joblot did sell them, nice units to put into stock. Last edited by Tinker; 08-15-2018 at 10:41 PM. |

Re: Blew The Rear End In My '40 coupe
Real 9" fords are getting rare. But they still make them aftermarket. No brainer, great units.
Something about a banjo rearend though. I encourage people to sell their banjos. cheaper the better. Last edited by Tinker; 08-15-2018 at 10:42 PM. |
