Yes - but our gallon was about 20% greater in volume.
I have had to put 1 shilling and sixpence ( 15c ) worth of gas in my 39 standard back in 1965 if I was nearly broke - more than once. Just enough to get me to work prior to payday. Chris.NZ. New Zealand. |

Gas is cheaper now than in the 60,s
When I started my tool making apprenticeship at GMNZ in 66 I got 33 cents per hr I gal of petrol was 33 cents. today my neighbours son started his fitting apprentiship at $18 per hour, petrol here today is $6.20 per gal. his one hour work buys him 2.9 gals Lawrie |

In 1963 at 17 years of age, I was an apprenticed deck officer ( cadet ) with the Union Steamship Company sailing between here and various Australian ports.
I was paid 2 pounds 10 shillings a week ( some would still say that was all I was worth ). Nearly 50 years later I was making more than my then annual salary in 4 hours as a Drilling Supervisor on oil rigs ( before I retired ). But you're right Lawrie - we are a lot better off today. Only wish I could buy a nice 39 deluxe coupe for $300. |

Hope you had a great trip for the Burt Munro weekend. I took the pickup in to town on the Thursday but my wife ended up getting 2 flat tyres in her car.... Took out our Model A on the Friday (and again today) but I didn't get to any of the motorbike events. Weather was pretty good apart from the Sunday. They raced in the rain last year (my cousin won his class) but it was a pity about the oil spill that killed the racing.

Which was a shame as it would have been nice to get the full event in for those involved. |

Always the same old.
I have paid to go into Eastern creek drags and immediately I was in, a few spots of rain fell, so they cancelled the whole event, money lost. I bet a few drops of rain would not have deterred old Burt, |
