Probably a dumb question, but what Champion plugs for a 1940 ? Not sure if that is my trouble or not but I have changed out the coil, condenser and distributor, good inner caps and plug wires so far and still not able to over come a skip when regular cruising on flat road. Car starts, idles smooth, plenty of power but has this annoying "hitching" going down the road. Where to now guys ?

"idles smooth" You are running on the idle jets "Plenty of power" You are running on the accelerator pump and power valve ""hitching" you are running on your main jets Save your money and remove and clean the main jets. Easy fix. Just takes a spec of dirt to clog a jet. Check the bowl for sediment/dirt while you have the top off John |

I agree that this is probably a fuel problem. I had the same thing happen to me with a Corvette; it ran beautifully except for an occasional "hitch" (good term for it, by the way) cruising down the road. It turned out to be the carburetor.

I would never have believed it to be carburetor trouble ? It just seemed like it would be electrical, I'll give it a shot fella's and see how it goes and thanks for the replies.
