Default Rubber gaskets for 35 not made right

I think I would faint if I ever found a rubber gasket that fit right. I’m talking about the ones with the lip around the outer edge like on the trunk handle and taillight stands. They are all to small. The part will not fit inside the outer edge. They just lay on top of it. Why have the outer edge at all. May as well just make it flat. The trunk handle gasket came from carpenters and the taillight from Macs.

I am in complete agreement with you. Gaskets that are too small, suspension seals that don't have enough elasticity not to break when installed, motor mounts that don't line up and are not mirror images of the original and exterior gaskets that turn green shortly after installation. All of this from people who "purport" to be part of the hobby. The bottom line is they practice a take it or leave it mentality and, because there are few options, smile on the way to the bank. I would gladly pay twice the price to get an American item that would fit. . . Chuck

Interesting regarding the rubber gaskets. I've done all mine on the '36 including the taillight stands from Bob Drake and they were a perfect fit.

As long as we're on this thread, how about the 1939 taupe floor mats that sell for between $135 and $150 and don't fit worth a damn. The mat opening for the floor shift is much to small (and the wrong shape) to fit over the shift tower. This requires major cutting and triming to fit properly. The pedal openings require trimming to fit without tearing the mat. I've talked to people at both Carpenter's and Drake's with the same result....... " there must be something wrong the your car" or "they must fit, the're from original molds".

On 35-36 Fords, at least the pickups, the door handle gaskets are supposed to be flat cardboard type material, not rubber with the lip. My 2¢.
