Default early v8 factory ford "dynamatic" electric fan

Hello all.
As some of you well know, Little Dearborn (only 1-1/2 miles from me) has decided to move after sixty years in the same location. I have been buying up the N.O.S. as much as i can. In the mix were multiple Dynamatic fans, fomoco part # 59A-8665. ive not seen much on these, only one that recently sold on ebay. i seem to only find that they were 46-48 only. A little insight would be appreciated

These are designed to freewheel when engine does not need the fan and to lock up and drive the fan at a specified temperature. They are controlled by a sensor in the lower radiator hose that installs through the rubber just like a heater hose fitting.

Interesting. Do they have any advantage in cooling?

Thanks. As i said, i have never heard, or seen these before, & was curious as to their function. The fans i ended up with, are all N.O.S. still in the box, all but one have all the hardware & instructions still wrapped in ford packaging.

Be certain they have the switches with them as they are impossible to find and commonly missing. I have 13 NOS dynamic fans but only one still had the switch in the box.

The advantage is not in cooling but in saving the power needed to drive the fan when it is not needed. Assuming cooling system is working, fan is generally unnecessary except at a standstill or in slow traffic when there is no flow from the car's motion. Power loss driving a fan is not great but is enough to be worth some trouble.
I once bought one with no switch...and here is how that worked out:

That really happened; if you buy one with no switch, don't count on it happening again!

Thanks, Bruce. I suspected that was the case.
