Removing hubcaps
Hi gents (I searched the forum but could not find this subject)
Is there a good way to remove hubcaps? I have three lugs on one rear wheel that spin and I am going to try to pull the wheel. I need to remove the hubcap while the wheel is on the car. Any tips or tricks without damaging the hubcap or the wheel paint too much? Thanks, JackD |

Re: Removing hubcaps
Never mind! I tried the first one and it popped off in a second with only one little nick in wheel.

Re: Removing hubcaps
It would be a great thing if someone markets Model A hubcaps that are removable like the 1932 - 1935 hubcaps are. My guess is such hubcaps would sell really well.

Re: Removing hubcaps
Someone makes a tool for the '30-'31 hub caps that makes them removable. I have not used one, but it looks interesting.

And it's another tool you can buy for your tool box... Thing is you don't need to remove a Model A hub cap as often as a '32-35. The lug nuts are assessable without removing the hub cap on a Model A, where as you have to remove the hub cap to remove '32-35 lug nuts. Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 05-09-2016 at 10:33 AM. |

Re: Removing hubcaps
It's a form for bending the tabs so the cap snaps into the wheel. It works with the 10 tab cap, The instructions say to bend 5 of them, I use all 10 seems to be tighter. It takes a little time, but no chipping paint, loose caps, rubber bands, string, glue and I haven't had a loose or lost cap in 8 years.

Re: Removing hubcaps
I have this tool and use it for all of my hubcaps. It works well on the hubcaps with 10 tabs. I've never lost a hubcap using this tool. I bought mine from Mike's years ago.
