Default Removing Shakles and Shakles pins

I am trying to remove the Shakles and Shakles pins to convert to tube shocks on my 1939 Ford. I have removed the nuts but cannot get the Shakles pins to budge. Any ideas on how to get them out?

On the contrary, not difficult at all. With good ventilation, heat only the pins to cherry red, then use vise grips to twist and turn the pins out. The remaining mess can be quickly cut through with a hacksaw and pulled out with pliers.

Per Ford Service Manual, they had a small puller to remove them and a hand-press to install them.

Is that your definition of easy??? And that is how I would take them out as well, but not what I would consider easy, but it is very doable.

Thanks Guys. I am taking it to a local shop and let them put some heat on it.

The hard part is not getting them out, it's getting them in without destroying them!
I used a driver, designed for them, and still had a hard time. I think a press would be best, or if you have access to the original Ford tools.
On a side note, I'm doing a 47 front end now and the replacement bushings are NORS and are designed to be a slip fit in, and the bushing seperate from the pin, and not pressed in.

Use a 1/2 drive socket that fits the outer housing diameter of the shackle bushing housing, then get a 3/8-24 NF Square head set screw, a NF nut and a grade 8 flat washer (Or two) the diameter of the bushing (YOu may have to enlarge the hole) and put the screw through the socket, the washer and nut on the other end and tighten the nut an washer or the head, either one and press it out!!! you will have to either burn the rubber and pin out or drive out the pin first!!!

Or the other method I have used is a larger socket (deep) for the shackle housing and a short piece of drill rod the diameter of the bushing drill a hole in the center for the shackle pin, and a large c-clamp and push the drill rod through the housing into the socket!!!
