Default head gasket

when I bought my rebuild gasket set they asked if I wanted the good gasket I said yes. after looking at gasket forums it seems the A-6051 premium replacement gasket is not highly recommended for a 6.1 head....by antique auto parts? its like all my harley deluxe gaskets. but not copper clad has hi temp silicone rings no steam holes.. dont want to use it with a 6.1 head if no good. HELP thanks

I only use the copper gasket with Copper Coat sprayed on both sides.

If you had told them you had a hi-comp head they might have suggested a different gasket. Most suppliers are good guys and want to provide the correct part not just as a matter of good service but also to avoid returns. Did you specify what head you had?

the best gasket is made by Best; it is copper clad. It is important, however, that the gasket fit the head . Try several different gaskets for fit by laying them on the head and look at how well they fit the combustion chamber. You will see variation in the fit from one brand to another. The fire ring should be clamped by the head, not over hanging into the chamber. I use copper coat too.

There might be a more modern version, but I've always use the copper gasket with the copper based head gasket sealant on both my As and Ts...never had gasket related issue.

I alway use Best Head gaskets on my Y-Blocks. Do you have a part# for the Best head Gasket for the A? Do you use different # with 5.5 head?

Thanks

I examined a Best very carefully at a seminar in Hill Country 2 yrs ago and the fire rings were absolute trash...all folded all over themselves, barely covered the seam, etc.
I'm out on those.
Put me down for an all copper 7013 felpro

Antique Engine Rebuilders in Skokie, IL recommends the BEST 573 Head Gasket for their high compression heads

I have a few of the Felpro head gaskets put back along with a 40's era McCord. Nice not to need for a good gasket later. Rod

Snyder's #B-6051-X
It is a Best copper clad gasket.
I have it on my 5.5 and it should work for you.
Call them to verify.

Yup, I agree. The Fel-Pro 7013 has tight crimps and the copper is thicker.
