The item your painting has to be warm enough.

Yes, it is very important to have the air & metal at the proper temp for the best adhesion & flow. You can choose a hardener as low as 60 degrees with most paints.

I have painted in 35-45 temps---but then the painted items have to be mover to a warm place ---I tried some samples, even after 1 week in cold temps the sample seemed dry when cold, but got soft and sticky when warmed --but another week in warm hardened it ----but long term exposure testing can take years--I have some samples of other experiments going on 20+ years of testing

My goal is to get garage 60 degrees. That should be adequate I hope. Thanks for your input.

I have a heated garage. And use heat lamps to warm the small parts that I paint.
Works really great. No paint runs and paint dries to a hard finish.

It is after the painting that the heat needs to be kept up ---till the paint cures, 24-48 hours

Painted the cab today at 60 degrees. All went well, will check in am and see how it looks.
