Hello fordbarn members.
I am working on getting a survivor 40 coupe back on the road and trying to keep everything looking as correct as possible. The original wiring harness was in very poor condition. So I was searching over the classiifeds a month or so back and found one that was listed as show quality and we bought it. Well it looked good in the box but after laying it out last week to prepare to install it we found a few areas that looked to be taped up. Well a closer inspection we found melted insulation and signs of a shorted circut. When the seller was contacted about the issue. We were informed that we got a good price for what we were sent and sorry . There is no way I'm going to Install this mess and chance burning up the car. Well we are out the $200 and the seller doesn't sound like he is willing to correct the issue and back to square one. Were is the best place to look for a quality original looking harness? |

There are a number of good, to excellent quality wiring harness suppliers, depending on just how much you want to spend. Rhode Island Wiring, Dennis Carpenter, Bob Drake, Tyree Harris, etc.

If the seller doesn't settle the problem how about posting his name? Have you tried searching his name here and on HAMB to see if he has a history? A couple of photos might be nice.

Most of the suppliers buy their wiring from Chis Olsen at Class Tech in Bend, Oregon. His wiring looks just like the originals. He made my wiring harness for my '41 Merc. I had him add the wires in it for turn signals. You can't even tell the extra wires are in the harness. He does great work!

Did you get pics of that wiring before you committed?

I wonder how sellers like that stand to look in the mirror or sleep nights. Invite him to read these comments. I just pray for people like that.

Yes but you couldn't see any of the issues I found. He also left out all the stuff thats cut when it was removed. In the sellers words " show quality" what would you expect ? A harness with splices, burnt spots and cut off when it was removed?

You might try the vendors on the H.A.M.B Alliance.

skid,
Go new, NOS harnesses are usually too stiff and creaky to use. The best of luck dealing with this seller. Charlie ny |

I truly liked dealing with Tyree Harris, although I did not have any extra wires added nor did I ask. I would contact all the people and vendors mentioned above and go with your natural instinct. I was in a very similar situation with a harness off ebay. It was "new" (my ass it was). I used the undamaged wires to add extra grounds and such with correct colors.

Another vote for Chris Olson in Bend. Got my wiring from him for my 40 wagon. He added turn signals to the loom. Got a Dearborn first time out. First class work.
