On my 286 ci stroker I use to run brand new edebrock 94, unfortunately cfm is too low, and decided to buy 2 rebuild ECG that flow 195cfm instead of 155 for the Edelbrock
Install 46 main jets and bolted on, car fired up right up, revs perfectly when not in load, then I decided to drive it first gear and go, but the engine is strugling, no power, if sounds that there is no fuel, or no ignition, put the clutch pedal down, and the engine is reving with no problem, tryed a few miles, but no power fell weird... Any ideas of the problem? thanks for your inputs Peter |

Pete, just my opinion, but why so small on the jets? My 2100s like 51 or 52s, I would be looking at bigger than that on ecgs, although I must admit I have not run the bigger carb. myself. It is something I am looking at though.

Ok, I will try bugger jets as suggested ;-)
On the Edelbrock 94, my jets are 45 and it is just good! thanks |

Find the spec...your need is going to be close to the original size, maybe one down but not far from OEM.
ECG is 1955-6 Ford? Not sure on these later ones. I think this is the model with the round secondary venturis on the nozzles? I may have the specs at home. The common use of "94" as though it were a model number has really confused conversation on these things. These are of course not 94's, and have a number of changes that would affect jetting...maybe in ways that cancel! The bigger venturis would lower signal and demand bigger jets, the secondaries might well increase signal and cancel that out! Gotta start at or near factory jets. |

There's your starting point! Get 55-54-53 and mess around in that neighborhood.
I repeat, these are not 94's...change the venturi size and stuff happens. |

I agree with you on the seems weird. While I agree the .046 jets are a bit small for your engine but it shouldn't be as noticeable as you indicate. Might feel a little sluggish but not as you indicate,

The 046 is off the map...these are carbs with much larger venturis than a real 94, and what is right for a 94 is not applicable.

Reflecting on Posts 2 and 3, have stock 286 running Holley 2100 with a 50 PJ. Performance-wise is a perfect match-up.

I totally agree that the 46 jets are way off on the ECG. You should only be 1 maybe 2 sizes off stock for the carb. Going to far completely buggers the air/fuel curve. It's a fairly common mistake to make.

Several people here are discussing 94 jet sizes. This is not a 94, it has very substantially different venturi size.

I have a Holley specs manual and the ECG-6 carbs (1956 ford 272) call for #52 main jets for 0 - 5,000 foot altitude. I bought 3 of these carbs to make a tri power set up and they all had #52 main jets. These are 1 1/16" venture carbs that have the larger round secondary venturi's.
I think the new Edelbrock 94 carbs probably have a different calibration and less air bleed venting to the main well, causing the need for the smaller main jets. I believe the ECG-5 carbs (1955) may have had #50 main jets. |

What is the actual list number on the carburetor base? ECG (what)? Also, What is a larger round secondary venturi??? |

Some of the later big bore 2 barrels of this family have a secondary venturi ring as part of the nozzle bar...I think the ECG has this but I am not certain. Some of the last Ford carbs of this tribe definitely did.

I am unfamiliar with the 2 bbl carbs, but intimately familiar with the 4 bbl versions, that have a booster (maybe that's it?) |
